What is e-governance?
E-governance is government work done through an electronic system: a filing, a payment, or a record that a person can see without a paper counter. For a company, it is the portal on which that filing is actually made.
What does the term cover?
The usual split is government to government, government to citizen, government to business, and government to its own staff. A company meets the third of those. The label does not create a new tax or a new regulator. It describes the channel.
Which portals does a company use?
| Portal | What is filed there |
|---|---|
| Ministry of Corporate Affairs | Incorporation, annual accounts, annual return, and director forms |
| GST | Registration and the returns on the GST returns page |
| Income-tax e-filing | The return on the income-tax return page, and challans |
| A state’s e-GRAS | That state’s own taxes and fees, explained on the e-GRAS page |
How is a filing signed?
MCA forms are signed with a digital signature registered on that portal. The papers for the certificate are on the digital signature page. GST and income-tax filings use the login and the verification that those portals ask for. A signature on one portal does not file a form on another.
What does a portal not decide?
The portal receives the form. It does not change the due date, the tax rate, or the section that requires the filing. A form filed late is still late. A form filed on the wrong portal has not been filed with the authority that asked for it.
Frequently asked questions
Four questions cover a licence, approval, separate logins, and the signature.
Is e-governance a separate licence?
No. It is the way a filing or a payment is made. The company still needs its own incorporation, GST registration, or tax identity.
Does uploading a form mean it is approved?
No. Upload is receipt. Approval, if the form needs it, is a later step by the Registrar or the tax officer.
Is one login enough for every department?
No. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the GST portal, and the income-tax portal are separate systems. A state receipt portal is a fourth.
Does a digital signature replace the form?
No. The signature authenticates the person. The form still has to contain the facts the rule asks for.
