Why is DIR-3 KYC rejected?
DIR-3 KYC Web is rejected when the name, date of birth, or PAN on the form does not match the income-tax record, when the address proof cannot be read, or when the digital signature is not the signature of the person who holds the DIN.
Which details must match?
The name and the date of birth are entered as they stand on the PAN. A spelling difference, or a date in the wrong order, is a mismatch. An Indian holder’s Aadhaar is linked to that PAN before the form is sent. The mobile number and the email address are numbers and addresses the holder can verify. The cycle those details belong to is on the DIR-3 KYC page.
Which papers fail the form?
An address proof that is blurred, cropped, or older than the period the instruction kit allows is rejected. A file that is not in the format or the size the portal accepts is rejected. A foreign national files the passport. A voter card or another Indian card does not replace that passport. A mandatory attachment that is left out makes the form incomplete.
Whose signature does the form need?
The form is signed with the digital signature of the DIN holder. An expired signature, or a signature that belongs to someone else, is rejected. A practising chartered accountant, cost accountant, or company secretary certifies the form. The DIN itself must be a number the portal can read. How that number is allotted is on the DIN page.
What happens after a rejection?
The holder corrects the field the portal names and files again. Filing a change of mobile number, email, or address within 30 days is a proper second filing. It is not a defect. A form that is never accepted does not complete the intimation. Once the due date has passed without an accepted form, the DIN is deactivated until the form is filed with the additional government fee. An extension that ran to 31 October 2025 does not apply to a filing in 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Four questions cover the PAN, a foreign national, a second filing, and a deactivated number.
Does a spelling difference with the PAN pass?
No. The name and the date of birth on the form are the name and date on the PAN. A difference is corrected on the PAN before the KYC is filed again.
Can a foreign national use only an Indian voter card?
No. A foreign national files the passport. An Indian identity card is not a substitute for that passport.
Does filing twice in one year cause a rejection?
No. The periodic intimation is every third year. A change of mobile number, email, or residential address is a second filing, due within 30 days of the change.
Does a rejected form keep the DIN active?
A form that is not accepted has not completed the intimation. If the due date then passes, the DIN is deactivated until an accepted form is filed.

The form is DIR-3 KYC Web under rule 12A, in force from 31 March 2026. The instruction kit requires the holder’s particulars to match the PAN, and the form is certified by a practising professional. The cycle is on the KYC guide.
