What can a business change without borrowing?

By Akshay Biwal Updated

A business can update its books, collect amounts it is already owed, and stop a cost it is still paying, without borrowing. A loan is a separate decision by a bank. It is not the first statutory step, and a closed relief scheme is not a substitute for it.

What is checked first?

The books of the year show what was sold, what is unpaid, and what is still being spent. A company keeps those books under section 128. Why they exist is on the books page. A percentage quoted from a survey of the pandemic years is not a figure this page uses, and it does not measure one business.

Where does cash come from without a loan?

Cash that is already in the business is unpaid invoices, stock that can still be sold, and a cost that no longer has a purpose. Changing the way customers are reached, including selling online, is a choice of channel. It does not itself bring a grant. A bank may later sanction a loan. This page does not set a rate, a ceiling, or a scheme.

Which filings still run?

Goods and services tax, income tax, and the Registrar forms for the type of entity continue. The yearly set for a private company is on the compliance page. The loan EMI moratorium of 2020 is closed. That is on the moratorium page. An office that advises businesses in another country is not the office that registers a company here.

Frequently asked questions

Four questions cover a loan, closed relief, an online shop, and a foreign agency.

Is a loan required to continue?

No. A loan is one option a bank may sanction. It is not a condition of keeping the business registered.

Is a 2020 or 2021 relief still a source of cash?

No. Those windows have closed. The EMI moratorium of 2020 is one of them.

Does an online shop replace the registrations?

No. Selling through a website is a business choice. Goods and services tax, income tax, and Registrar forms stay in force where they apply.

Is a foreign small-business office the route?

No. An office of another country’s small-business agency does not register or fund a business in India.
